The Alhambra is one of the most fascinating and important historical monuments in Spain. This impressive palace and fortress complex in Granada attracts millions of visitors every year and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. Its Moorish architecture, ornate details and magnificent gardens make the Alhambra a must-see for every tourist.
The attractions inside the Alhambra
The Alhambra is home to several remarkable sights that you should not miss:
- Nasrid palaces: These magnificent palaces form the heart of the Alhambra. Their ornate courtyards, intricate stucco work and water basins create an atmosphere of tranquillity and beauty. The Courtyard of the Lions and the Sala de los Abencerrajes are particularly worth seeing. A reservation is required to visit the Nasrid Palaces (also for Granada Card holders).
- Generalife: The gardens of the Generalife are an oasis of peace and offer breathtaking views of the city of Granada. Stroll across the terraces and enjoy the variety of plants and flowers that adorn the gardens.
- Alcazaba: The fortress of the Alhambra, known as the Alcazaba, offers an impressive view of the surrounding area. Here you can explore the impressive walls and climb the towers, from where you have a marvellous view of the city and the Sierra Nevada.
- Palace of Charles V.: This Renaissance building stands in stark contrast to the Moorish architecture of the Alhambra. The palace now houses the Museo de la Alhambra, which showcases the art and history of the region.

Admission prices and tickets
Admission prices to the Alhambra vary depending on the type of ticket. There are combined tickets for the entire complex as well as individual tickets for specific areas. Discounts are available for students, senior citizens and children. Attention: All types of discounts are usually only available on the official website (Alhambra-Patronato.es). Regular tickets are usually a little cheaper there, but not always available.
To avoid queues, it is advisable to book tickets online in advance. This guarantees entry at your desired time, especially in high season. If there are a lot of tourists in Granada, it is essential that you book your ticket online in advance.
The Alhambra is also part of the Granada Card. We recommend purchasing the Granada Card if you would also like to visit other sights in Granada or use the tourist train, for example.
